GLOSSARY

OPC-UA

Open Platform Communications — Unified Architecture
DEFINITION

A modern, platform-independent industrial interoperability standard (IEC 62541) with built-in security and a rich information model.

OPC-UA is the modern standard for moving structured, secured, self-describing data between industrial systems — PLCs, SCADA, MES and the cloud — independent of vendor or platform, with encryption and authentication built in.

A Raspberry Pi runs an OPC-UA server or client comfortably (via stacks like open62541 or asyncua), so it can expose its data securely to enterprise systems or consume from UA-capable controllers.
