GLOSSARY

PAC

Programmable Automation Controller
DEFINITION

A controller that blends PLC-style deterministic control with PC-style data handling and a more open programming model.

A Programmable Automation Controller emerged to give PLCs the data-handling and connectivity they historically lacked, combining deterministic control with PC-class processing in a single, often semi-open device.

A Raspberry Pi overlaps with a PAC on the data and connectivity side — and adds on-device AI — at a fraction of the cost, while a PAC retains the edge on certified real-time and rugged lifecycle.
