Industrial Raspberry Pi buyer's guide

Four questions decide which industrial Pi you should buy. Answer them honestly and the shortlist writes itself.

SHORT ANSWER

Choosing an industrial Pi comes down to four questions: how harsh is the environment, how much isolated I/O do you need, do you need on-device AI, and what lifecycle guarantee do you require? Match those to RevPi (rugged, certified), Seeed (edge-AI), Sfera Labs (compact, well-isolated), or an own-build board (cheapest at the same capability).

01The four questions

Be honest about each — over-buying the environment wastes money, under-buying it costs you a return visit.

  • Environment — temperature, vibration, EMC, ingress
  • I/O — how many isolated 24 V points, analog channels, fieldbuses
  • AI — do you need on-device vision/ML (Hailo) or just control
  • Lifecycle — how many years of guaranteed availability you need

02Matching to a platform

Harsh + certified → RevPi. AI-first → Seeed or our Node One. Compact, well-isolated → Sfera Labs. Same capability for the lowest price → an own-build board, because there's no distributor margin on a re-badged reference design.

Common questions

The ones we're asked on every first call.

Only if it meets all four requirements. Cheapest-that-fits is the goal, not cheapest outright. Our own boards are designed to be the cheapest at a given capability, not by cutting the industrial features that matter.
